Lupercus is the only victim of Ancient Pompeii
whose identity has been revealed almost 2,000 years later. Due to his bronze ring stating his status as a slave. These are
the fictional accounts that lead up to his death.
It was a clear summer night in 79 A.D. and Lupercus watched a couple sitting
on a bench near Herculaneum(Town near Pompeii) They looked like cupid struck both of them because they were both love stuck,
you could tell it in there eyes. However, the couple were both scared, there was lava flowing everywhere around them spewing
from Mount Vesuvius. He reached to clean out his mouth, he was not thirsty but the snoke and thin ash made his mouth feel
nasty. Lupercus looked down at his golden ring, and remembered inscribed on the inside of his ring was his name, "Lupercus
Augusti Servus. It was the only thing of his possessions that he took before he headed for the beach. He looked up to the
Volcano and thought that since he is near the water he will be safe.
Lupercus was a common slave and he was appointed by the emperor. The emperor
said if he made a good impression he could eventually be released one day. He's duties were to take care of the garden villa
that belonged to the emperor Caligula. He then looked around again and saw that all the woman in Pompeii fled wearing all
of their jewerly that they could possibly where on there bodies. More conservative woman were carrying baskets of food and
bronze lamps. Then the unexpected happened, the lava started flowing heavier and more. Lupercus no longer felt safe as he
fled to the very tip of the shore, the lave eventually caught up to him, killing him instantly from asphyxiation. The
only thing left to identify him was his bronze ring declaring his name and status in 79 A.D.
